Steamboat Springs There was foul trouble early and a slightly disconcerting surge from Hotchkiss late. Hayden took control in the first quarter, however, and had little trouble hanging on for a valuable road conference win Friday, beating the Bulldogs, 58-44.
“It was a good win. When we spend five hours on the road, then sit another five hours waiting to play, then win, we’ll take it,” Hayden coach Mike Luppes said.
The Tigers got up 18-4 in the first quarter and led by 13 at half and 20 after the third quarter.
Paul Laliberte had his best scoring night of the season, dumping in 28 points. He nailed five 3-point shots and made seven of eight free throws. He also had five assists.
Isaac Bridges scored nine while Jorge Valdez and Mark Doolin had eight each. Valdez finished with 12 rebounds, and Doolin had nine. Both each also had four assists while Valdez racked up five steals.
Hayden plays at 4 p.m. Saturday on the road against Paonia.
“Hopefully, we’ll get another good win and complete the weekend,” Luppes said.
