Steamboat Springs athletes prepare for Snowboard World Championships

— The FIS Snowboard World Championships begin Thursday in Stoneham, Quebec, with a large contingent of Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athletes expected to compete.

The Winter Sports Club is expected to send nine U.S. athletes and four Australians to the competition.

Those expected to compete are Ty Walker in slope-style, Taylor and Arielle Gold in half-pipe and Jenna Feldman in snowboard cross.

Competing in the parallel slalom and giant slalom are Justin Reiter, Michael Trapp, AJ Muss, Converse Fields and Mimi Wiencke.

Winter Sports Club riders expected to compete for the Australian team are Belle Brockhoff and Jarryd Hughes in snowboard cross, Rick Wilkes in parallel slalom and giant slalom and Michaela Davis-Meehan in slope-style.

Half-pipe snowboarders Matt Ladley, Benji Farrow and Maddy Schaffrick will not attend because of the Winter X Games in Aspen, which begin Jan. 24.
