Steamboat briefs: News from CMC's Small Business Resource Center


■ The format of the monthly Success Steps lunch workshops hosted by the Small Business Resource Center at Colorado Mountain College’s Alpine Campus will change to evening meetings at the college. The cost will be reduced to $10.

■ A course on Social Security planning will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 22 in room SB 209 of the academic building at CMC. ■ A course for small businesses about how to set up retirement programs is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 5 in Room SB 209 of the academic building at CMC. The $10 program will cover how to set up 401(K) or Simplified Employee Pension programs, the administrative processes involved and the benefits to owners and staff members. Cultural integration group is looking for volunteers

Integrated Community is looking for volunteers to teach English. The in-home tutoring program trains and matches volunteers with limited English speaking community members. Get to know residents from other cultures while helping them learn English. For more information, call Roddy at 970-620-1513.

Integrated Community also is looking for volunteers to help with its resource and referral program. Practice your Spanish skills while assisting community members from other cultures. Call Sheila at 970-871-4599.

Recycle electronics through the Sustainability Council

If you got a new cellphone or other electronic device during the holidays, the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council would like your old one. Items that are accepted for recycling include: cellphones, smartphones, wireless device accessories (cables, chargers, headsets, batteries, cases, Bluetooth, etc.), digital cameras, MP3 players, tablets, personal digital assistant, wireless air cards and GPS units. Items can be donated in the box inside Wells Fargo, 320 S. Lincoln Ave., or the Sustainability Council office, 141 Ninth St.

The Sustainability Council also is accepting old banners to be repurposed as bags.

Habitat ReStore seeking volunteers on weekdays

Steamboat’s newly expanded Habitat ReStore is open in Riverside Plaza next to Pisa’s and needs volunteers to help price and sell donated furniture, lighting and building supplies. Shifts are available from noon to 2 p.m. or 2 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 970-367-8001 and ask for Jody.
