Steamboat Springs Middle School students fly high at Nordic race

— Steamboat Springs Middle School skiers dominated a cross-country ski race at Howelsen Hill on Saturday.

Anna Burkholder won on the girls side, and Evan Barbier was tops on the boys side, each finishing ahead of a heap of fast teammates.

Burkholder finished the 2.5-kilometer course in 8 minutes, 54.5 seconds, ahead of teammate Avery Harrington, who was second in 9:34.1. Reilly Mewborn was ninth, Sophia Grewal was 12th, Soria Rabanal was 13th, Katy Floyd was 14th, Maggie Morton finished 15th, Meg Anderson was 16th, Lauren Requist was 19th, Julia Congdon finished 21st, Cole Sias was 28th, Carly Haugh came in 32nd, Alta Kaster was 34th and Scout Reynolds finished 43rd.

For the boys, Barbier finished in 8:09.6, winning a sprint to the finish against teammates Tyler Terranova, second at 8:09.8, and Noel Keefe, third in 8:09.9.

Sven Tate was seventh for Steamboat, Jimmy Colfer was ninth, Ethan Moyer was 12th, Matai Curzon was 13th, Jack Hurlbert was 22nd, Tanner Richards was 24th, Zeke Kinnison finished 40th, Jack Strotbeck came in 44th, Grant Polhman was 45th and Gibby Kenney finished 49th.
