Chris Diamond: Thanks for your part

As the resort readies to celebrate its 50th anniversary this weekend, I wanted to take a minute to recognize the many contributions, large and small, that have made Steamboat the special place it is today. We’ve come a long way since the first skis were strapped on, the principal trails laid out and we embarked on this unique journey for the love of the sport and Champagne powder snow.

Whether you’re working at the mountain or a business in town, helping the next generation of young skiers and snowboarders or volunteering to make a difference in the Yampa Valley, this resort is a reflection of each and every one of you and of this community’s unique character. From the first visionaries such as Jim Temple and John Fetcher to local powderhounds pressing glass on a special day, the passion and joy for skiing/riding and for this community keeps taking us to new heights. Anything is possible in Steamboat.

This past holiday week Steamboat received the highest marks ever recorded by this resort for guest service, an unprecedented 91 percent NPS score, during what was the busiest time of the year for the community. This score is attributed to not only those on the hill but equally to every person across the valley who strives to make each guest feel like family.

It’s the easy smile, warm hello, honest answer or going that extra step that has established Steamboat as a beacon of hospitality in the ski resort business. It’s simply who we are. The first pioneers would be extremely proud of what Steamboat has achieved during the past five decades, but more importantly, that it has stayed true to its roots — genuine friendliness and Western hospitality.

I think many great moments and inspiring experiences lie ahead for us throughout the next 50 years. On behalf of the entire staff of Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., thank you for making history and for being a member of the Steamboat family.

As Eleanor Roosevelt said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Dream big Steamboat, and always follow your heart, just like our founders did 50 years ago.

Chris Diamond and the staff of Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp.
