Craig The Moffat County Sheriff's Office, Craig Fire/Rescue and EMTs from The Memorial Hospital in Craig responded to a fire early Thursday afternoon near a pump jack on Colorado Highway 394 and Moffat County Road 33.
The fire has been extinguished, and there are no reports of injuries.
Authorities think the heating element failed on a tank that is used to separate oil, gas and water, igniting the fire.
Craig Fire/Rescue Chief Bill Johnston said firefighters found a pressurized vessel engulfed when they arrived at the scene. Officials contacted the well operator, who told firefighters how to secure the fuel in the vessel so the fire could be extinguished and an explosion could be avoided.
Hayden-based Booco’s Contract Services is the pump jack service provider. It is operated by an independent company.
