Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School Alpine ski team opened up the season Friday in Beaver Creek with three podium finishes.
Ali Pougiales was second on the girls side with a two-run time of 2 minutes, 11.66 seconds. She clocked the fastest second run by almost a second.
Suzanne Lyon was fifth in 2:17.47, and McKenzie Millard was sixth in 2:18.18.
Battle Mountain’s Kendall VanHee was the winner in 2:10.92.
On the boys side, Peter White narrowly missed winning, finishing second in 2:09.77. Aspen’s Luke Prosence was first in 2:09.50.
Andreas Foulk was third in 2:13.48, and Danny Kramer was sixth in 2:15.08.
“We’re very happy with the way they skied,” coach Jim Winn said.
The team next competes Friday when it hosts a dual slalom at Howelsen Hill. Because of the dual slalom, more gatekeepers are needed. Those interested in volunteering can email Winn at jimwstmbt@gmail.com.
The tentative start time for Friday’s first run is 10 a.m. Volunteers likely would need to be at Howelsen by 8 a.m.
