Registration is open for Steamboat Pentathlon
Registration is open for the Steamboat Pentathlon on March 9. The multi-sport race includes Alpine skiing, showshoeing, cross-country skiing, mountain biking and running. Standard and short courses are available for teams or individuals. The cost is $50 for youths 17 and younger, $100 for adults, $160 for adult duos, $150 for youth teams and $225 for adult teams. Registration is open through March 4, but fees increase by $20 on Feb. 15. All racers will receive an event T-shirt and lunch as well as be entered into the prize raffle drawing. Master Gardener Training Program starts on Jan. 31
Colorado State University offers its Master Gardener Training Program beginning Jan. 31 at the Routt County Courthouse Annex, according to a news release. The 11-week program focuses on gardening topics, including plant and tree identification, proper planting techniques, plant diseases, insect identification and infestation solutions, irrigation management, and high-altitude gardening. The cost is $325 and participants must commit to volunteer 50 hours to the program. A Colorado Gardener Certificate is available to those who cannot make the volunteer commitment for $575. African dance sessions will start Tuesday at Depot
A series of African dance sessions begins with African Dance Basics from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 8 to 29 at the Depot Art Center. The course is designed for beginners and will teach basic movement for this style of dance. The cost for the four-week class is $40 and is due in full on the first day of class. The series continues with Traditional Afro-Cuban in February (call Nicole Idzahl at 901-326-8140 to register by Feb. 3), Guinea style in March (call Lowe to register by March 3) and Congolese style in April (call Idzahl to register by March 31). The Fit Miles fitness challenge, where participants accumulate miles by doing fitness activities, starts in February at Old Town Hot Springs, according to a news release. Friends of the Chief is in need of volunteers
The Friends of the Chief, a nonprofit committed to the rehabilitation and revitalization of the Chief Plaza Theater in downtown Steamboat Springs, is in need of volunteers to clean, paint, research, usher and organize.
