Steamboat Springs cross-country team does well at national qualifying race in Frisco

— The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club cross-country team had 40 athletes compete in a pair of events at the Frisco Nordic Center during the weekend.

The event was the Rocky Mountain Nordic’s fifth and sixth national qualifying races.

Friday’s event was a mass-start classic race.

Top finishes included Evan Weinman finishing second in the boys J1/OJ division. Gretchen Burkholder was first in the girls J1 division, and Jordi Floyd was second. Katie Brodie was second in the girls J2 race. Evan Barbier and Simon Zink were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the boys J2 field, and Tyler Terranova was second in the boys J3 field. Avery Harrington won the girls J4 race, and Reilly Mewborn was third. Grey Barbier was third in the J6 boys.

On Saturday, in an individual-start skate race, Burkholder skied well and was second in the J1 girls race. Tabor Scholl was second in the J2 girls race, and Simon Zink was third in the J2 boys race. Avery Harrington won her second race in the J4 girls, and Waverly Gebhardt was third. Grey Barbier was second in the J6 boys race.

The race series wraps up this weekend in Durango.
