Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club freestyle moguls team wrapped up the regular season during the weekend at the Rocky Mountain Divisional Championships in Steamboat.
Pacing Steamboat was Jaelin Kauf, who was second Saturday in single moguls and continued her torrid pace in Sunday’s dual moguls, picking up the win.
On the boys side, Brad Hoefer was second Saturday. George DeGrandis was fourth, Evan Smith was 10th and Skyler Kauf was 13th. Smith, who recently joined the club from Washington, registered his first top 10 in the Rocky Mountain Division. On Sunday, DeGrandis beat Hoefer in the finals of dual moguls to earn the win.
“It was a great, great weekend for us,” Winter Sports Club coach Mike Amatto said.
The team now prepares for Junior Nationals in Park City, Utah.
The team leaves Monday for the event. The girls compete March 7 in a single moguls event, and the boys compete March 8. On March 10, there is a dual moguls event.
“The field will be deeper, and it will be a bit tougher competition,” Amatto said. “All the kids are skiing really well right now. We’re going up there to ski our best and see what the outcome is. There is a good chance we could see some podiums up there.”
