Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team qualified Saturday for the state basketball tournament, picking up a 45-28 win against Eagle Valley in the district tournament.
Steamboat started slow, falling behind 11-8 after one quarter.
The Sailors started to find a rhythm in the second quarter, going on a 22-2 run through the middle of the third to take a commanding 30-13 lead.
“After shutting them down offensively, we were able to run some offense and got some good looks into their zone,” Steamboat coach John Ameen said.
McKenzie Repollo led the Sailors with 12 points. Maggie Crouch had 10, and Alex Feeley had eight. Nikki Fry also had nine rebounds.
Steamboat needed the win to advance to the 4A state bracket.
The Colorado High School Activities Association will release the brackets Sunday. Ameen thought the Sailors would be an 11 or 12 seed. The team will play on the road Tuesday, likely in Denver.
