— The Steamboat Pilot & Today collected 50 awards during Saturday’s Colorado Press Association Better Newspaper Contest banquet at the Westin Downtown Denver Hotel, highlighted by the 2012 Advertising Innovation award for an initiative in which the newspaper’s advertising consultants met with 600 advertisers and business owners during a six-month period to gather feedback about their marketing needs as well as their impressions of the Pilot & Today.

Advertising Director Meg Boyer collected that award on behalf of the newspaper.

The newspaper collected a total of 17 first-place awards in editorial, advertising, website, and photo and design categories. The Pilot & Today also won the Advertising Sweepstakes award for winning more individual advertising honors than any other newspaper in its circulation class.

“I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished in the past year and the people who made it possible,” General Manager Scott Stanford said. “We truly have a great team as well as wonderful community support.”

The Durango Herald won the General Excellence award as the best overall newspaper in the Pilot & Today’s circulation class. The Pilot & Today had won the General Excellence award in nine of the previous 10 years.
