Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team lost in the quarterfinals of the district tournament Thursday, falling 42-32 to Rifle.
It was Steamboat’s third loss to Rifle this season.
Steamboat started well, taking a 10-8 lead after one quarter. But the Sailors struggled on offense after the first eight minutes.
The Bears led 22-17 at half and had extended that to 29-22 after three quarters.
Nikki Fry led Steamboat with eight points. Alice Holmquist had seven.
Steamboat next plays Durango at 6 p.m. Friday.
The top seven teams from the tournament advance to state.
