— Oak Creek Fire Protection District Chief Chuck Wisecup used some sweet ingenuity to rescue a dog from the roof of a home Tuesday.

Wisecup said a resident called him at about 3 p.m. to report the dog was stuck on the roof at 402 N. Grant Ave.

The resident reported that after walking to the post office with her kids, the black Labrador retriever mix followed them home. The pooch then managed to climb onto the roof of the resident's home by going up a snowbank. That is where it got itself into trouble and needed help.

"He wanted down," Wisecup said. "He just didn't know how to go about it."

Wisecup said he thought about calling for a fire engine crew to come help, but he decided he could handle it and used leftover birthday cake to entice the dog to the edge of the roof. It worked, and Wisecup was able to grab onto the dog and get it off the roof.

"He was there playing with the kids when I left," said Wisecup, who added that Oak Creek police officers are trying to find its owner.
