Steamboat Springs Hayden and Soroco high school basketball teams wrap up their seasons Friday with the cross-county rival matchups.
7 p.m. Friday: Hayden (4-13) vs. Soroco (13-5)
The good thing is both teams are playing pretty well at the moment.
Hayden, after struggling with an inexperienced lineup, has started to play well toward the end of the season. The Tigers have won two of their past three.
Soroco’s season has followed a script. The Rams win in bunches and then hit lulls. Entering Friday’s game, the Rams have won four in a row and are looking to secure a top-four seed in the district tournament.
8:30 p.m. Friday: Hayden (16-2) vs. Soroco (9-9)
It’s only fitting that the last thing standing in the way of a perfect league record for Hayden is its cross-county rival Soroco.
The Tigers have been the class of the league with their eyes set on the state tournament.
The Rams have been an up-and-down team throughout the year, but nothing would be better than beating the Tigers.
Soroco should match up well. If forward Ryan Jeep can get going, this could be a close game. A Rams win also would be good for seeding in the district tournament. Hayden already has locked up the No. 1 seed.
