Tuesday, February 19, 2013
Steamboat Springs Steamboat Springs skier Mary O’Connell won her first college race of her career Saturday at the Middlebury Carnival in Vermont.
Competing for Dartmouth, O’Connell won her first Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association race, a 15-kilometer mass start race.
O’Connell took the lead right from the start but was caught by the University of Vermont’s Anja Gruber at the 5-kilometer mark. Eventually, O’Connell retook the lead, skiing to the finish line uncontested.
The EISA schedule continues in Maine this week, the last chance for skiers to battle for slots at the NCAA Championships in Ripton, Vt.
