Steamboat Springs skiers showed well last weekend in a big mountain freeskiing event at Sunlight Ski Resort.

Pushed to Sunlight by low-snow conditions at other potential competition spots, the team made the most of it. Josh Trosky was the top Steamboat skier, finishing fifth. Jim Vanderbeek was 12th and Jake Sivinki was 13th. JV Vanderbeek placed fifth in a younger division.

“The athletes did really well, all things considered,” said Kerry Lofy, coaching the athletes through Team Summit. “This venue was perfect for these locals as it catered to fast, fluid skiing. With one run you had to show the judges that you really knew how to ski. It wasn’t very technical terrain, so you had to be creative and ski fast — perfect for these athletes.”
