On behalf of the Michael R. Gebhardt Memorial Fund, we would like to thank the Steamboat Springs businesses and community members who participated in and supported Snowflakes for Mike. We also would like to thank Billy and Amanda Grimes and Bina Shah for their help coordinating the fundraiser.
The Snowflakes for Mike fundraiser was done in honor of Michael R. Gebhardt, a resident of Steamboat Springs for nearly five years, who died tragically in an avalanche on Soda Mountain on Buffalo Pass on Jan. 3, 2005.
Michael was a firm believer in ongoing outdoor eduction and backcountry/avalanche safety. The memorial fund established in his name has made yearly donations to Steamboat Ski Patrol Beacon Basin, Routt County Search and Rescue, Yampatika, Yampa River Botanic Park and Colorado Mountain College. The fund continues to promote his beliefs, and to this end, the proceeds of this fundraiser directly will benefit organizations in Steamboat Springs.
In addition, we would like to announce that the Michael R. Gebhardt Memorial Scholarship for Avalanche Certification at CMC in Steamboat Springs was awarded this year to Dustin Eldridge. Congratulations, Dustin, and much success in all you do.
Our thanks to the following businesses who dedicated a space for stickers and a collection jar: Deja Vu Boutique, Zing, Christy Sports, Backdoor Sports, Rocky Mountain Remedies, Ski Haus, Wells Fargo, Fifth Street Market & Deli, The Tugboat Grill & Pub, Anytime Fitness, Moose Mountain, The Homesteader, Ortega’s, Cantina Mexican Restaurant, Artisan Market, Steamboat Ski & Bike Kare, Johnny B. Good’s Diner, Bamboo Market, Off the Beaten Path Bookstore, Quiksilver, Urbane, Bee Bop Hair Shop, Carl’s Tavern and Cowboys & Indians.
For all those who enjoy the outdoors and backcountry, please remember to take advantage of local education seminars and clinics. Remember to get educated, stay educated, be prepared and practice.
The Michael R. Gebhardt Memorial Fund looks forward to continuing to give back to the community that Michael loved.
