Steamboat snowboarder Arielle Gold's torrid pace continues
Friday, February 8, 2013
Steamboat Springs At this point it would be hard to argue that any Steamboat Springs athlete is having a better winter than Arielle Gold.
The 16-year-old snowboarder continued her ascent in the sport early Friday at the Burton European Open in Laax, Switzerland, picking up her first major tour stop win. Gold's victory Friday comes on the heels of her winning a half-pipe World Championship, finishing third at the X Games and then taking second at a Grand Prix event.
The U.S. swept the podium in Switzerland, with Olympic champion Kelly Clark in second and Ellery Hollingsworth in third.
In the men’s finals, Steamboat’s Matt Ladley was seventh, and Taylor Gold was ninth.
