Soroco girls survive scare against North Park

Joel Reichenberger

Briana Peterson scored with three seconds remaining, lifting Soroco over North Park in a nail biter in Oak Creek, 49-48.

“That’s the best I’ve ever seen them play,” Soroco coach David Bruner said about the Wildcats, who have struggled in recent seasons.

“That’s the best they’ve played and our girls overcame that, so I was pleased,” he said.

Hayley Johnson scored 14 points. Jacey Schlegel had 11 and Jessica Rossi and Josie Rossi each added more than 10 rebounds.

Soroco led 28-20 at half, but North Park got hot from 3-point range in the second half, tightening the game.

“It was good to get out of there with the win,” Bruner said.

Soroco, 10-5, plays at 4 p.m. today on the road at West Grand.

“It doesn’t get any easier,” Bruner said. “We’ll need to give it our best effort and see what happens.”
