Steamboat Springs Two Steamboat Springs youth swim entities are combining to form one team.
The Old Town Hot Springs announced Thursday that the OTHS Swim Team and the Steamboat Springs Swim Team will combine to form one year-round team.
Previously, the two remained separate with the Steamboat Springs Swim Team renting lap space from Old Town Hot Springs. The hot springs team had a program in the winter with the Steamboat Springs team competing in the summer and fall.
“It gives us the opportunity to help swimmers of all abilities,” Old Town Hot Springs Operations Director Stephanie Orozco said. “Running a successful, year-round program will help streamline operations and create opportunities for swimmers in this community.”
Old Town Hot Springs Aquatic Director Jill Ruppel will remain the coach of the team, which will keep the Steamboat Springs Swim Team name.
There also will be an advisory board consisting of Ruppel, Orozco, Dave Terranova, Brad Craig, Kristin Wilson, Laura Foulk and Lori Harrington.
“It’s really an opportunity to pool the skills from the existing board and the staff at the Old Town Hot Springs to work toward a common goal,” Orozco said.
