Steamboat Springs The 35th annual Community Holiday Wishes Party returns to Howelsen Hill Sunday.
The party serves as a thank you to the community for its help throughout the year and specifically with United Way’s Holiday Wishes program.
The program helps match families in need with organizations and members of the community so that those families can have a happy holiday.
The party runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday and includes tubing, hot chocolate, gift wrapping, Christmas carolers, performances by the Steamboat Chamber Choir and pictures with Santa.
“It’s such a huge part of the community,” said Stephany Traylor, who is the vice chairwoman for the Young Professionals Network committee.
In addition to United Way helping find the families in need, the YPN has helped with collecting and getting gifts for the families. Steamboat Springs Rotary Club is spearheading plans for Sunday’s party.
This year alone, United Way found 347 families in need. There are still 66 families that need to be adopted. If any person or business would like to sponsor a family, they should call United Way at 970-879-5605.
Traylor said they have volunteers for Sunday’s event but encouraged any person who still wanted to volunteer to show up on Sunday.
She said gifts for the program are still needed. Those interested in buying gifts or gift cards can look at the registry by clicking here. http://www.mygiftlist.com/giver_main.asp?code=GUEST&buid=128043

“It’s a big thank you to the community,” Traylor said. “Steamboat is a tight-knit place that gives and gives and gives through the year. This is a nice event. It’s free, so come enjoy it for what makes Steamboat special.”
