Steamboat Springs Some city of Steamboat Springs water customers may have done a double take when they opened their latest bill and noticed it was a bit higher than usual.
The rates haven't gone up, and no one was overcharged, Finance Director Kim Weber said Wednesday.
Instead, some bills are higher because the city is working to get all of its customers on the same billing cycle, and the latest round of bills included 45 days of service for some customers instead of the usual 30.
That means some of the city's 2,600 water customers who were expecting their readings to be done Nov. 15 had the readings done Nov. 30 instead and were charged for the additional days.
“Half of our customers were getting them on the first of the month, and the other half were getting them on the 15th,” Weber said about the bills.
The new smart water meters installed by the city last year allow the city to do all of the readings simultaneously now, and the billing will follow suit.
“In order to create efficiencies, we are doing all of the billings now on the first of the month,” Weber said.
The billing should now return to the normal 30-day schedule.
