Now that’s a fine way to open a season. The Soroco High School boys basketball team got off on the right foot Tuesday night as it opened the season with a 55-34 win against North Park.
The Rams blew open a game that was 16-8 at halftime, riding a huge 23-point third quarter to a big lead.
“It took us awhile to get going, then we came out and pretty much sealed the game in the third quarter,” coach Jake Eskridge said.
Part of that surge came from senior Matt Regan, who came off the bench in his first athletic action since a high ankle sprain sidelined him late in the football season. He scored nine consecutive points in that third quarter, and finished with 11.
Ryan Jeep led the team with 26 points and Carl Rossi had nine.
“Matt doesn’t have the conditioning under his belt like everyone else right now, but he gave us a spark off the bench,” Eskridge said.
The Rams return to action at 3 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the Cowboy Shoot-out in Meeker, playing against Little Snake River High School out of Baggs, Wyo.
