Steamboat Springs Enterprise Rent-A-Car is going through the city of Steamboat Springs’ process to establish a new rental location on Downhill Drive in west Steamboat.
The company currently has staff at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort and cars in a garage at the mountain.
Tina Gabell, regional operations manager for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, said the company is looking to expand its business in Steamboat.
“The current location doesn't really work well as far as access and visibility,” Gabell said about where the cars are stored.
Driving through the city to reach customers at Yampa Valley Regional Airport sometimes can add 20 extra minutes to travel times, she said, and the potential new location would put the company closer to its business accounts as well as allow for more retail rentals.
Gabell said there is potential for Enterprise to increase the number of cars it has available for rent in Steamboat, but the growth wouldn’t be immediate.
Enterprise will continue to have cars at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort even if the new location is approved, Gabell said, but the logistics of what that would look like have yet to be determined.
The Planning Commission will hear the application Dec. 12 for a conditional use to allow the rental car use on Downhill Drive. The staff report states that the use is consistent with the area.
In a letter to the city, Gabell wrote that the high utilization of the company’s fleet means that only about five cars would be parked at the location throughout the day.
Enterprise also would occupy an office suite at the location.
