Steamboat Springs The Tugboat Grill & Pub has been seized by the Colorado Department of Revenue.
Documents posted on the building state that $10,846 in taxes and penalties is owed by the business.
If the debt is not paid by 11 a.m. Sept. 11, the business’s possessions and contents of the building will be auctioned. The Tugboat has been an iconic pub for decades and is full of memorabilia and ski town memories.
The state collects taxes for itself and Routt County. Steamboat Springs collects its own sales tax. For confidentiality reasons, Steamboat Springs Finance Director Kim Weber was not able to say whether the city was owed money from the business.
In the event the Tugboat’s assets were auctioned, the state would pay any other debts owed to government entities after taking what it was owed.
The owner, Jim Beatty, could not be reached for comment.
