Steamboat briefs: Fall preschool program is offered Sept. 17 to Dec. 19

City of Steamboat Springs Parks, Open Space and Recreational services is offering a fall preschool program for children ages 3 to 5 who are potty trained. The program will run Sept. 17 through Dec. 19 for a 13-week session on Tuesdays and a 12-week session on Thursdays. Both programs will be held at the Igloo at Howelsen Hill from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Children can register for the entire 12- or 13-week session at a discounted rate or for individual days. Tuesday’s program is a “Kids in the Kitchen with Books” program, and the cost is $195 for 13 sessions. The program on Thursday includes skating lessons with skates included for a cost of $225 for 12 sessions.

Back-to-school fundraiser is this weekend, Aug. 30, 31

Colorado Student Care will sponsor its third annual back-to-school fundraiser Friday to Saturday and Aug. 30 and 31. The group will be collecting school supplies to benefit students at all Routt County schools at the front entrance of the Steamboat Springs Walmart. The event also will offer free food and drinks. CDOT announces closures related to Pro Challenge

The Colorado Department of Transportation has released information to the public about the impact the USA Pro Challenge bike race will have on state and local roadways. The Challenge will bring some of the world’s top cyclists and fans to Colorado from Monday to Sunday. Racers will navigate nearly 600 miles of terrain during the seven-day race, which organizers predict will attract more than 1 million spectators.

Daily road closure information during the event will be available by calling 511 from anywhere in the state or by visiting www.cotrip.org. Real-time highway information also can be accessed through email and text alerts issued by CDOT.

According to the CDOT press release, the race will affect the Steamboat Springs area on the following dates:

■ Wednesday, Stage 3 from Breckenridge to Steamboat: Colorado Highway 9 north to Kremmling, U.S. Highway 40 west to Steamboat Springs, from 10 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m.

■ Thursday, Stage 4 from Steamboat to Beaver Creek: County roads to Oak Creek, Colo. 131 south to Wolcott/U.S. 6 east to Avon/Beaver Creek, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
