— The Oak Creek Town Board at its Thursday meeting will introduce and discuss ordinances dealing with retail sales of marijuana.

Two potential ordinances will be up for discussion when the Town Board meets at 7 p.m. at town offices.

One ordinance would set the standard for a single-license system through which the Town Board would be the agency responsible for approving state-issued licenses through a conditional-use process. In the single-license system, retail shops would not have to go through an additional licensing process for the town.

Town Administrator Mary Alice Page-Allen said the conditional-use process would allow for additional or specific requirements for individual license approvals.

The other ordinance up for discussion Thursday would amend the land-use code to allow for retail marijuana stores in Performance Districts 1 and 7.

“We’re more focused on the land-use side of the equation,” Page-Allen said.

Introducing the ordinances is the first step in the process toward having rules in place by Oct. 1. A public hearing for the ordinances is scheduled for Aug. 22.

Also during Thursday’s meeting, the Town Board will hold a public hearing on the Community Development Block Grant program, which relates to requests for the town’s water system as well as a number of other topics, and will hold a public hearing and consider a resolution for a supplemental budget.
