Steamboat Springs A 5-year-old boy went to Yampa Valley Medical Center on Tuesday after a scare at an Old Town Hot Springs pool.
Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue Capt. Chuck Cerasoli characterized the incident as a possible near drowning.
Old Town Hot Springs Operations Director Stephanie Orozco said the boy was with his parents when he went under the water.
“It was something that happened in a split second,” Orozco said. “Parents and lifeguards responded immediately.”
When the boy was brought on the pool deck, he had a pulse and was breathing, so lifeguards did not give CPR. It was unclear how long the boy was under the water. Because of the boy's condition, Orozco said it must have been for just a second.
Cerasoli said the boy came around on his own but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
