— Routt County residents who are thinking about a run for a local school board will have plenty of seats to apply for this election season.

Starting Wednesday, candidates can pick up applications and start gathering the signatures they need to get on the ballot for the 10 seats that will be up for election in the three school districts.

The administrative assistants in all three school districts are available to outline the petition process.

In Steamboat Springs, seats in Districts 1, 2 and 3 will be open. The eligible districts cover most of the school district with the exception of the downtown corridor and some neighborhoods just south and east of downtown.

Steamboat's district boundaries can be viewed here.

The district currently is accepting applications for the open District 2 seat and has to appoint someone two months before the election.

With Board President Brian Kelly saying he is unlikely to run again for District 1 and Denise Connelly term limited in District 3, the race is likely to be wide open.

Thanks to the recent conversion to all at-large seats, any resident in the Hayden School District will be able to apply for a seat. The three highest vote getters will be sworn into three open seats that currently are held by Board President Brian Hoza and members Kurt Frentress and Tim Frentress.

And in South Routt, Districts 1, 2, 3 and 5 are up for election. The seats currently are held by John McCollum, Gena Hange, Jamie Hoff and Joel Harris, respectively.

South Routt's district boundaries can be downloaded here.
