— Guns and a unique deer mount are among the items taken from a home during a burglary in Toponas.

The burglary was reported Tuesday, and it is thought to have occurred sometime between April 7 and 16. The home is at Colorado Highways 131 and 134.

Routt County Undersheriff Ray Birch wrote in an email that the garage door to the home had been kicked in.

Among the items taken was a trophy deer antler mount. Birch said the item is unique and was mounted in 1949. The deer has 13 points on each antler.

Five guns were taken, as well. Those were a 12-gauge shotgun, two .22 rifles, one .30-30 rifle and a .308 rifle.

Among the other items taken was a toolbox with tools, a battery charger and two cordless drills.

No suspects have been identified.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy Jake Carlson at 970-870-5503.

Our local "well regulated militia" should look into why this gun owner did not have his weapons secured. 5 guns out on the streets in the hands of criminals.

Gun owners need to step up and secure their weapons from thieves or quit complaining when the government takes them away.

And this is news -- why? Forums a little slow lately? Is this what they call "agenda-setting"?
