4 p.m. Friday: Steamboat at Jefferson

10 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat at Ralston Valley

Noon Saturday: Steamboat at Boulder

After a slow start to the season, Steamboat got back on track during the weekend with a 3-0 performance. Maybe more impressive was Steamboat’s ability to win in the third set of matches. The team should be challenged with both Saturday matches against Ralston Valley and Boulder.

4 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (9-2) vs. Glenwood Springs (1-4)

3 p.m. Saturday: Steamboat vs. Valor Christian (4-3)

Steamboat should roll on Friday, but Saturday should be a battle. Steamboat, ranked fourth in the latest Class 4A poll, welcomes No. 8 Valor Christian. Steamboat has been hot of late, its most impressive win of the season coming against previously unbeaten Cheyenne Mountain.

4 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (4-6) at Grand Junction (3-2)

10 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat at Fruita (2-2)

The girls lacrosse team continues its stellar season. The team should have a shot in both games. It has yet to play Grand Junction but already has beaten Fruita, 12-8, earlier this season.

Noon Saturday: Steamboat (5-2-2) vs. Wheat Ridge (6-1-1)

This sets up as one of the most interesting matchups of the weekend. It's Steamboat’s first test against a top-end Front Range opponent this season. Wheat Ridge is ranked No. 9 in Class 4A and a win would look tremendous on the Sailors schedule come playoff time. Per usual, it will come down to Steamboat making the most of its opportunities in the attacking third.

Steamboat Springs baseball

11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday: Steamboat (4-5) at Palisade (5-2)

Steamboat will have its hands full Saturday at Suplizio Field in Grand Junction. Palisade is ranked No. 5 in Class 4A. Steamboat knows how tough Palisade is from playing the Bulldogs throughout the summer in American Legion baseball. Steamboat’s had some hard luck this season losing close games. The Sailors could make a move in the league with at least a split.

Steamboat Springs, Hayden and Soroco track and field

9 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat, Hayden and Soroco at Glenwood Springs

Hayden and Soroco were supposed to compete Friday in Coal Ridge but the meet was canceled. Instead, the three area track and field teams will try their luck in Glenwood Springs. Weather predictions are calling for a much better day Saturday. For Steamboat, it will be interesting to see how Meg O’Connell continues to improve in the distance runs. In Hayden, Jorge Valdez is coming off a win in the high jump. Josie Rossi paced the Rams finishing third in the 800-yard run and seventh in the 3,200.
