Hayden volleyball downs North Park, 3-0

Luke Graham

— Hayden High School volleyball coach Christene Planansky could sense it but just wasn’t seeing it.

She knew her Tigers team was much better than their record.

So finally, on Wednesday, the first-year Hayden coach sat down with her players.

“We had a heartfelt talk about everything,” she said. “We talked about playing with heart the entire game. They came out and proved they have heart.”

Hayden certainly did.

The team downed North Park, 3-0, on Thursday, winning, 25-22, 25-17 and 25-22.

“This is really big,” she said. “Bigger than just winning is we won in three. We have not done that yet. This was really important for the girls. They need to know how good of a team they really are.”

Planansky attributed the success to controlling the net and pristine service.

Jordan Temple had eight aces, and Olivia Zehner had six.

Temple added 10 kills and, along with Kara Cozzens, didn’t give North Park much at the net.

The win was big for a struggling Tigers team. Hayden (2-8) plays one of its busiest weekends.

The team resumes play at 5 p.m. Friday at Soroco.
