Steamboat Springs ■ 6:30 p.m. Thursday: Steamboat (6-5) vs. Glenwood Springs (6-3)
■ 6:30 p.m. Friday: Steamboat vs. Eagle Valley (2-5)
In a muddled Western Slope League, the Sailors have a chance to make a proving point this weekend. Glenwood comes in as the top team in the league, and Steamboat already has beaten Eagle Valley. Should Steamboat win both, it will set itself up for the second part of the league season.
■ 7 p.m. Thursday: Steamboat (5-4) at Rifle (2-5)
After two bad days earlier in the month, Steamboat is playing much more spirited soccer. The Sailors have won two of their past three and appear ready for a stretch run. On paper, Steamboat should win, setting itself up for an interesting four-game stretch to close the season.
■ 11 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat (1-3) vs. Montezuma-Cortez (1-3)
In a game of two teams struggling for relevance in the Western Slope League, the winner could go a long way in climbing up from the cellar. Cortez is coming off two crushing losses to No. 2 Palisade and No. 1 Rifle. Steamboat should have a good chance to win, but that might depend on the availability of quarterback Christian Ramirez, who went out with an injury last week. Without Ramirez, Steamboat had minus-20 yards of offense.
■ 5 p.m. Friday: Soroco (1-7) vs. Hayden (1-7)
■ 3 p.m. Saturday: Soroco vs. West Grand (5-6)
The Soroco volleyball team has found little consistency. The team gets a return match with Hayden, this time on its own homecoming. The Rams have looked decent at times but, more often than not, porous in most games. Two home games could help remedy the situation.
■ 7 p.m. Friday: Hayden (3-1) at Rangely (2-2)
After an emotional — and rather easy — victory last week against Soroco, Hayden looks to keep it going at Rangely. One of the concerns for the Tigers was the Rams’ ability to run the ball. The team will see a lot more of that Friday against Rangely.
■ 4:30 p.m. Thursday: Hayden (1-7) at North Park (5-3)
■ 5 p.m. Friday: Hayden at Soroco (1-7)
■ 3 p.m. Saturday: Hayden vs. Rangely (7-3)
Hayden is off to a ragged start. The team has a tough slate this week with three consecutive games. The team could build some momentum toward the latter half of the season or find itself at the bottom of the league come Saturday.
