July 9, 2012: Routt County treasurer to retire in November

— The Routt County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to interview four candidates Monday and Tuesday seeking to fill out the term of County Treasurer Jeanne Whiddon, who announced in July that she would resign at the end of November after 14 years in the elected post and 26 years total with the county.

The person chosen by the commissioners to fill out the final two years of Whiddon’s term would serve as treasurer until 2014, when the position next goes to county voters.

The commissioners began advertising the opening in August. Their agenda packet does not reflect the names of the applicants. However, when she announced her intent to resign July 9, Whiddon recommended Carol Comeau, who is currently an accountant working in the County Finance Department.

Whiddon began working in the accounting department in January 1987/ She first ran successfully for treasurer in 1998. She has served a second role as the public trustee, managing foreclosure filings at the county. Her combined annual salary for the two roles is $71,000.
