■ 3 p.m. Saturday: Hayden (1-6) vs. Vail Christian
Hayden finally got a win Tuesday against rival Soroco. The Tigers struggled in the early parts of the season but looked decent Tuesday. The team jumped out to lead and was able to win in the fourth game after a letdown in the third.
■ 6:30 p.m. Friday: Soroco (1-5) vs. Plateau Valley (2-6)
■ 3 p.m. Saturday: Soroco vs. Paonia (9-1)
The Rams, after winning their first game, have lost five straight. This includes winning just two of their past 17 games. Soroco has shown glimpses of a veteran team but struggles when things start to go the other way. Coach Kim Reeves would love to see some consistency.
■ 3:30 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (3-5) at Fossil Ridge (5-0)
■ 9 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat at Poudre (4-2)
This is the last chance Steamboat has to sharpen up before the regional tournament. Steamboat has had an up-and-down type of year. Recently, the team has played better and will look to gain some confidence as the season winds down.
■ 6:30 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (5-3) vs. Palisade (4-5)
■ 1 p.m. Saturday: Steamboat vs. Delta (5-4)
It’s separation week for the Steamboat Springs volleyball team. After a pair of quality wins for a young and inexperienced team, the Sailors get into the meaty portion of their league schedule. Two wins would let the rest of the league know that Steamboat is here to stay.
■ 7 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (1-2) at Glenwood Springs (0-3)
The Sailors are markedly better. But the team still is susceptible to lapses of concentration and untimely turnovers. Glenwood is winless but has played a beast of a schedule, including losses to No. 1 Rifle and No. 2 Palisade. Steamboat could show real progress by getting a road win.
■ 10 a.m. Saturday: Steamboat at Moffat
After the team’s most successful meet at the Liberty Bell Cross-County Invitational, Steamboat gets a meet a little closer to home. The field won’t be as deep as the Liberty Bell, providing confidence. Meg O’Connell and Colton Lewer likely will lead the Sailors again.
■ 2 p.m. Saturday: Steamboat (4-3) at Evergreen (3-1-1)
The Steamboat soccer team is reeling. After winning three straight to open the season, the Sailors have struggled mightily. A 4-2 loss to Palisade with a second-half collapse left a sour note. Despite it being early, Steamboat already is battling its way back to try and earn a postseason berth.
