Hanna Berglund, soccer
2009 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, senior at Colorado College
Berglund got her first start in goal of the 2012 season Friday and responded with a shutout of Bryant University. Berglund had two saves as the Tigers beat the Bulldogs, 4-0, to move to 2-1-3 on the season. It was the 10th shutout of Berglund’s career and her 98th save for Colorado College, a Division 1 soccer program that competes in Conference USA.
Colleen King, volleyball
2010 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, junior at University of Denver
King and the Pioneers swept the competition at the 2012 Service Academy Challenge on Friday and Saturday inside the Pentagon Athletic Complex in Washington, D.C. King had 30 kills as Denver beat the Citadel, 3-1; Navy, 3-1; and Army 3-0. King, a right side hitter, leads the 6-3 Pioneers in kills with 83 on the season.
Cody Miles, football
2010 graduate of Soroco High School, redshirt sophomore at Fort Lewis College
Miles, who has moved from linebacker to defensive end this season, led the Skyhawk defense in tackles Saturday during a 50-0 loss to New Mexico Highlands. Miles had nine tackles (three solo), forced a fumble, batted down a pass, and had one tackle behind the line of scrimmage. The 0-1 Skyhawks travel to Flagstaff, Ariz., this weekend to face Northern Arizona.
Kailee Duryea, volleyball
2012 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, freshman at Eastern Wyoming College
Duryea, a libero, has played in all nine matches and 28 of 31 sets for Eastern Wyoming, a two-year school in Torrington, Wyo. Duryea leads the 1-8 Lancers in digs, digs per set and passing. She also is second on the team in serve percentage and has four service aces.
Sarah White, soccer
2012 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, freshman at DePauw University
White, a midfielder at DePauw in Greencastle, Ind., got her first playing time of the season Friday in a double-overtime loss to Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich. Kalamazoo’s Maya Smolcic scored in the 103rd minute to break a 1-1 tie and lift the host Hornets to a 2-1 win against the Tigers, who fell to 0-3 on the season.
Alex Wood, football
2009 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, redshirt junior at the University of Colorado
Wood, a fullback, caught two passes for 26 yards in the Buffs’ 30-28 loss Saturday to Sacramento State. Wood now has three catches for 36 yards in the Buffs’ two games, both losses.
Christi Valicenti, tennis
2012 graduate of Steamoat Springs High School, freshman at Lake Forest College
Valicenti, playing in the No. 2 singles spot, lost Sunday for the first time in nine matches. Sunday morning, Valicenti cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win against Libby Storick, of Beloit College. But in the afternoon, Valicenti was downed 6-1, 6-1 by Alexandra Bayliss, of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Valicenti, playing with Malika Celebic, also lost for the first time in doubles. The Foresters now are 8-1 on the year. Valicenti is 8-1 in singles and 7-1 in doubles.
