Steamboat volleyball
Steamboat Springs 6 p.m. Thursday: Steamboat Springs (8-12) at Battle Mountain (10-10)
With its postseason hopes dashed, Steamboat enters its final regular season game playing for pride. The Sailors have juggled their lineup much of the season, with several young players, including freshmen, seeing time. Battle Mountain needs a win to keep its slim playoff hopes alive.
Steamboat football
7 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (3-5) vs. Lutheran (6-2)
After two deflating losses, Steamboat will look to get back on track. The Sailors — playing two of the top teams in 3A — were outscored by 101 points in their past two games. Lutheran is battling for a league title in a down 3A Metro League. Lutheran beat Summit, 10-0, earlier this year. Steamboat downed Summit, 21-19.
Soroco volleyball
Friday: Soroco (3-15) at district tournament in West Grand
Soroco faces a tough challenge to begin. The team will play No. 1 overall seed Paonia (18-1). The Rams have spun it as a new season with new opportunities. But inconsistent play and communication problems have hindered the team’s chances this year. Soroco also will play games against Meeker and West Grand on Friday.
Hayden volleyball
Friday: Hayden (4-15) at district tournament in West Grand
Hayden opens with Vail Mountain (13-6) on Friday. Although the Tigers have struggled throughout the year, the team is coming off an emotional win. Hayden beat Vail Christian, 3-2, in the final regular season game. Hayden also will play Rangely and Hotchkiss on Friday.
