Hahn's Peak Roadhouse music plays on with limits

Steamboat Springs — The Routt County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to allow Hahn’s Peak Roadhouse owners Darren and Carroll Zamzow to continue hosting live music events at their restaurant near Steamboat Lake, but not as often as they would like and not as late into the night.

Board Chairman Doug Monger said the Zamzows will be able to continue to host bands while they work through the formal process of amending their county permit to specifically allow the live shows. However, in the interim, they would be allowed to host only one musical act a week, not the two they asked for. And the music must stop by 10:30 p.m., not 12:30 a.m. as requested.

The interim arrangements call for the Zamzows to submit a completed application to amend their permit by Jan. 4 with a second deadline Feb. 26, when the extension will end if the amended PUD isn’t in place.

The extension does not set a precedent that will influence the ultimate decisions on the amendment, Monger said, nor has the application been vetted for compliance with the Upper Elk River Valley Plan, the Routt County Master Plan or the zoning regulations.

Just how many folks have complained? Me thinks much ado 'bout nothing. So much for a lack of governmental interference.

I loved the Headbanger's Ball last summer, Jonny G lit it up, and I was sorry to miss Jed. I think WAY more people enjoyed themselves than were ever bothered, and a 10:30 stop-time is a death knell to a live venue. Methinks a little heavy-handed as well.
