Steamboat soccer

Steamboat Springs — ■ 6 p.m. Thursday: Steamboat (9-5) at Summit (10-4)

It’s paramount the Sailors come away with a victory. Summit already has secured the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Slope League, but Steamboat still has a chance to earn one of the eight at-large bids into the 32 team Class 4A bracket. A win would look mighty good on the Sailors’ resume. Steamboat’s playoff fate will come down to the selection committee, and there would be no better way to make a statement than to beat Summit.

Steamboat volleyball

■ 6 p.m. Thursday: Steamboat (8-11) at Glenwood Springs (10-5)

At this point, the Steamboat volleyball team is playing for pride with its postseason hopes dashed. Glenwood still is vying for a top seed out of the Western Slope League. The Sailors need things to start right for them to have a chance.

Steamboat football

■ 7 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (3-4) at Rifle (7-0)

Things get much harder this week for Steamboat. Coming off a 52-7 loss to Palisade, Steamboat now plays what many consider in the best team in Class 3A. The Bears have been everything a No. 1 team should be. Star running back Ryan Moeller gets a lot of the credit — and rightfully so with 1,634 yards rushing and 24 touchdowns — but the defense has given up just 3.1 points per game this season.

Hayden volleyball

■ 6 p.m. Friday: Hayden (3-14) at Vail Mountain (10-3)

■ 3 p.m. Saturday: Hayden at Vail Christian (7-10)

Hayden finishes its season with a trip to Vail. The Tigers haven’t found much on the court this season, failing to put together a consistent attack. A split would be a good weekend for the Tigers as they prep for the district tournament.

Soroco football

■ 7 p.m. Friday: Soroco (4-3) at West Grand (4-3)

With West Grand having already locked up another league title and home playoff game, the end result of this one in inconsequential. Soroco will be home for the playoffs after a staggering loss to Rangely last week. But these schools have quite the rivalry, and for the Rams, there would be no better way to end a disappointing season than with a win.

Soroco volleyball

■ 3 p.m. Friday: Soroco (3-12) at Hotchkiss (5-11)

■ 3 p.m. Saturday: Soroco vs. North Park (9-7)

The Rams wrap up the regular season with a pair of games. Soroco, at 1-9 in league play, will need to win both to ensure they won’t finish last. The Rams have had a tough year battling inconsistency and poor play. After this, the team will play in the district tournament.
