Steamboat Today raises more than $3,600 with pink issue

— For one day, on Oct. 15, the Steamboat Today newspaper was printed on pink newsprint to draw attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Steamboat Today agreed to donate 25 percent of all advertising sales that day to the local fight against breast cancer. Our advertisers stepped up to the challenge, and we were able to give more than $3,600 to Yampa Valley Medical Center to fight breast cancer locally.

It would not have been possible without the efforts of the entire team at the Steamboat Today and without the nearly 50 advertisers who participated in the day. Thank you, Steamboat!

In the pink issue, Steamboat Today reporters provided insight into the early detection of breast cancer and the new technology available in diagnosis.

Eight local women shared their stories of survival and Yampa Valley Medical Center provided a Monday Medical column about mammograms. Also highlighted was the Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project and its fundraisers.
