Steamboat Springs The Northwestern University Ski and Snowboard Club is scheduled to give Steamboat’s tourism a boost right before the December holidays.
The Daily Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., reported Tuesday that the campus ski club has chosen Steamboat as the destination for its annual trip from Dec. 15 to 21. Tickets just went on sale, so the number of students who will take part isn’t known. However, Assistant Campus Editor Lauren Caruba reported that the trip typically attracts 800 to 1,000 skiers and snowboarders.
The group visited Park City, Utah, last year and was in Steamboat five years ago, according to the Daily Northwestern. Club president Emily Arbuckle said a lack of snow was an issue in Utah last year and Steamboat’s reputation for receiving early snow factored into the decision for this year’s destination.
The article adds that there is usually a concert associated with the ski trip. In past years, rap acts including the Ying Yang Twins and Coolio have performed. The article said undergraduate students may purchase round-trip tickets from campus to the resort for $198.
