2012-13 Winter Running Series schedule
Steamboat Springs The newest addition to the Steamboat Springs Winter Running Series might also be one of the toughest.
The inaugural Hahn's Peak Wild Flower Loop will showcase North Routt County to runners. The event is Saturday.
“We mountain bike in the area weekly,” said race Director Dave Mark. “I live in Hahn's Peak Village and want to promote events in our area.”
Mark, who also helps run the Glide the Divide Nordic skiing event, said race should be a good test for runners looking to get some incredible scenery and one last good run before the snow starts flying.
Entry is $25 for adults and runners younger than 18 pay their age.
There are 6- and 15-mile races, a one-mile race for youths and a dash for younger children. The mile race and dash begin at 10 a.m., and the other two races begin at 10:30 a.m.

Parking will be available at Second Avenue and Cottonwood Street in Hahn's Peak Village adjacent to the start and finish of each race. Additional parking is available at the Hahn's Peak Roadhouse with a shuttle to the start.
The longer races each start on Main Street and go to Forest Service Road 410. The 15-mile race will be a test, climbing some 2,400 feet and reaching an elevation of 9,800 feet. It will travel up four miles to F.S. 418A to F.S. 413 before climbing the Farwell Mountain saddle. It then descends Beaver Basin and F.S. 409 back to Main Street.
The 6-mile race goes on F.S. Roads 410, 410-2B, 411 and 409 before returning to Hahn’s Peak Village and Main Street. There will be two food stations along the course.

The race serves as a benefit for the North Routt Community Charter School Nordic ski program.
“Our hope,” Mark said, “is to make this a strong, annual event.”
