Steamboat Springs The obvious thing was the Steamboat Springs High School boys basketball team is better today than it was yesterday.
And if that’s any indication of an awfully young team, then tomorrow should be better than today.
Steamboat was able to methodically extend its lead, beating Roaring Fork, 46-33, in the opening game of the season.
“But it looked like our first game of the year,” Steamboat coach Luke DeWolfe said.
The Sailors led, 24-19, at the half and used the final three minutes of the third quarter to extend its lead.
Junior Carter Kounovsky led the team with 16 points. Junior forward Garrett Bye kicked in 14.
“It’s going to be gradual,” DeWolfe said. “These guys are getting better. We made some strides.”
Steamboat should get a better test at 3:30 p.m. Saturday against a physical Basalt team.
