Steamboat girls basketball
Steamboat Springs Last season: 12-11 (lost in first round of state playoffs)
Returning starters: Alex Feeley, Nikki Fry, Jessie Wallace, Megan Stabile and McKenzie Repollo
Stepping in: Alice Holmquist, Mikaila Jegtvig, Maggie Crouch, Hunter Anderson, Amaris Duryea, Ellie Becker and Ashley Spitellie
Season outlook: This is the deepest team coach John Ameen has had. The Sailors have the ability to go 12 players deep, but Ameen said he would like to keep his rotation to nine players.
He will use the early season, and specifically the Steamboat Springs Shoot-Out, to dictate that rotation. The good thing, he said, is there won’t be much of a drop-off when the starters have to come out. Fry will be out until at least January with a knee injury, but Steamboat has enough forward depth to make it through. Steamboat’s expectation is a league title, and with experience and depth that is what it should be.

Returning starters: Josie Rossi and Jacey Schlegel
Stepping in: Jessica Rossi, Hayley Johnson and Briana Peterson
Season outlook: The Rams will be young, with a lineup full of sophomores and freshmen. Coach David Bruner said despite the inexperience, he won’t change up his philosophy of trying to get up and down the court. He wants his teams to get 60 to 80 shots per game. Bruner said his biggest concern with his young team will be getting pressed. He also said the team will play more zone defense because of a lack of height.

Season outlook: After a solid season last year, the Tigers enter this season incredibly young. The team graduates most of its production from last year and will be green at guard and post. The good news is second-year coach Michelle Wilkie sounded confident about the camaraderie surrounding the team. The early season could be rough, but Wilkie said the team will get better as the season progresses.
