Bradon Webb, a freshman at Hayden High School, has been announced by the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in mathematics, according to a news release.
The academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of students for this honor based on recommendations from school staff. Recommendation requirements include consideration of academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, attitude and cooperative spirit and dependability.
Webb is the son of Kim and Doug Scherar, of Steamboat Springs, and the grandson of Linda Bertram, of Hayden, and Bill and Debbie Bertram, of Craig.

Registration open for free summer reading programs
Registration is open for the Yampa and Oak Creek public libraries’ Dream Big — Read! free summer reading programs. Hospice Celebration of Life event set for June 18, 19
The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association’s annual two-day Hospice Celebration of Life event is June 18 and 19. The event kicks off with dinner at 6:30 p.m. June 18 at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort. The dinner includes viewing of a gallery of artwork for sale, a getaway raffle and a live auction. The golf tournament is the next morning at Catamount Ranch & Club with registration at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Sponsorships are available starting at $100. Dinner tickets are $60 and include one raffle ticket each. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased at the dinner for $10 per ticket or $100 for 12 tickets.
The events supports the VNA’s Hospice and Palliative Care Program. In 2011, the VNA provided care to 69 terminally ill patients and bereavement counseling and support to more than 300 grieving family members. BLM to host workshops June 12 in Steamboat
The Bureau of Land Management’s Northwest Colorado District is hosting a public workshop at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. June 12 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center to gather social and economic information that will be used in its districtwide greater sage grouse planning effort, according to a news release.
The BLM is writing an environmental impact statement to analyze incorporating new sage grouse conservation measures into its resource management plans for the five field offices within the district: the Colorado River Valley Field Office in Silt, the Grand Junction Field Office, the Kremmling Field Office, the Little Snake Field Office in Craig and the White River Field Office in Meeker.
