Steamboat briefs: Possible salmonella leads to organic spinach recall

Steamboat Springs A recall has been issued for organic baby spinach possibly contaminated with salmonella, according to a news release. Taylor Farms Retail, of Salinas, Calif., is recalling the spinach after a random test conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on a finished package of spinach showed potential contamination with salmonella.
There have been no reported illnesses in states where the product was received. The products being recalled in Colorado are 5-ounce clamshell packages of Private Selections organic baby spinach with UPC code 0-11110-91128-5 and a best by date of May 25. Affected packages will have a package code of TFRS 130B 1503 KT34 or TFRS 130B 1803 KT34. Also recalled are products in 10-ounce clamshell packages of Marketside organic baby spinach with UPC code 6-8113132900-2 and a best by date of May 25.

All Routt County Council on Aging sites will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. All lunches are served at noon. There is a recommended donation of $3 per lunch for those 60 and older and $6 for those younger than 60. No Habitat for Humanity workday for duplex Saturday
Habitat for Humanity is taking Saturday off from the duplex build in Riverside in honor of Memorial Day. One of Habitat’s partner families is in the U.S. Navy doing humanitarian missions around the world. Habitat’s offices and ReStore will be closed Saturday through Monday in honor of Memorial Day. Rally for the Cure golf tournament is July 10
Steamboat’s 13th annual Rally for the Cure golf tournament is July 10 at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club. Tee times are at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project and Rally for the Cure. The tournament is a four-person team, scramble format. There are no age restrictions and no golf handicaps necessary. The $100 entry fee includes green fees, carts, lunch and donations. The cost for nongolfers is $25 for lunch, donation and activities.
