— Shell representatives will be in Craig next week for a repeat performance of what took place last month in Hayden.

Scott Scheffler, Shell communications specialist, said Tuesday a venue has been obtained for what will be the energy company’s fourth community open house in as many weeks.

“Hayden is a good midway point between our operations in Moffat County and Routt County,” Scheffler said. “But we wanted to make sure to bring an open house to each local community.”

The open house is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. May 24 at the Boys & Girls Club of Northwest Colorado, 1324 E. U.S. Highway 40.

Matt Holman, Shell’s project lead, will be in town to talk about specific site locations and provide residents with a general overview of Shell’s play for Niobrara Shale oil, Scheffler said.

In addition, Scheffler said Holman will be joined by representatives from Shell’s environmental, road and logistics, construction, drilling and completions, social investments and community relations teams.

Some of the topics on tap for the event include road improvements and the logistics of moving a drilling rig from one site to the next, pad construction, drilling technology and company safety.

“It’s all about bringing the message to our local stakeholders and giving people the opportunity to ask questions in a personal environment,” Scheffler said.

The social investments team also will be talking to local residents about opportunities for Shell to invest in the community through nonprofits and philanthropic activities, Scheffler said.

Those who can’t make the May 24 event in Craig are welcome to attend the Steamboat Springs open house at 11:30 a.m. May 23 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center, 1605 Lincoln Ave., which will feature the same company representatives.

Considering last month’s open house in Hayden lasted three hours, Scheffler said Shell representatives are prepared for a productive meeting with Craig residents.

“We’re going to open the doors and stay for as long as they (Boys & Girls Club) will let us,” he said. “We aren’t going to shut anyone out who has a question.”
