Haymaker Golf Course recently was named the ninth “Best Course You Can Play” in Colorado by Golfweek magazine.

The list of the state’s best public courses considered several factors in determining the rankings.

It’s not the first time Haymaker has made the list. In 2011, it was named the eighth-best course.

“It gives us some recognition,” Director of Golf Tom Taylor said. “It gives you some marketing that you want. When it’s on any of those publications, it’s good. It’s a nice way to have your name out there. Hopefully with the recognition, you get some of those people from outside of Routt County playing rounds.”

Taylor said there isn’t a tangible way to decipher whether the ranking is helping drive traffic to Haymaker. He said although course officials closely monitor out-of-town rounds, they don’t survey each golfer.

“We’re monitoring our guest rounds,” he said. “But it’s hard to gauge. Rounds are certainly starting to pick up.”

Cougar Canyon in Trinidad was ranked first for the second straight year while Redlands Mesa in Grand Junction was second.

Haymaker was one of two mountain-town courses to receive a top 10 nod. The Raven Golf Course at Three Peaks in Silverthorne slotted in at No. 8.
