Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Leonard Yoast. Leonard recently passed away, and he will be missed by the community.

Sincere condolences to Ted Copeland and his family on the loss of Judy Copeland, who also passed away. She was one of the grand ladies of the community and will be missed not only by those in our community but also by those near and far. She touched so many with her happy smile and helping hands.

Get well wishes to Nancy Montieth, who was in the hospital for a few days.

Get well wishes also to Gretchen Hayes, who has been at Yampa Valley Medical Center for a month. Gretchen is scheduled to be home this weekend.

Get well wishes to Chuck Girton, who also has been feeling under the weather.

Happy birthday to Charlie Epp, Mel Hoffman, Nathan Svoboda and Casey Potter.

Garrett Murphy celebrated his birthday last week with a bowling party with family and friends.

Congratulations to Brentt Gabel for being the Senior of the Month at the Hayden High School.

The benefit concert for Pastor Doug Zirkle featuring Barry Ward was a well-attended fundraiser. Everybody enjoyed the Hayden Congregational Church choir, which sang several pieces. Theresa played “The Old Rugged Cross” on the piano, and Barry Ward shared his songs and guitar skills with the community.

On Thursday, Hayden Valley Elementary School’s fourth- and fifth-graders will put on their Spring Music Concert in the Hayden Secondary Schools auditorium.

The Hayden Spring Fling will be Saturday in conjunction with Hayden Clean-Up Day. The booths will be set up at the Routt County Fairgrounds pavilion.

South Routt Elementary School held its 10th annual Literacy Carnival on April 17. Students from preschool to fifth grade participated by going to booths and literacy games operated by various student and community organizations, including the Soroco High School National Honor Society, the Soroco Future Farmers of America, student council, the fifth-grade classes, Tracks and Trails Museum, Eastern Star and Routt County CattleWomen.

Mark your calendar for the Soroco athletic awards ceremony, which will be held at 6 p.m. May 24 in the high school auditorium. The high school academic awards ceremony also will be held that evening at 7 p.m.

High school graduation will be at 11 a.m. May 26 at the high school gymnasium.

Eighth-grade continuation and middle school awards will be at 6 p.m. May 30 in the high school gymnasium.

The Hayden Public Library’s book club will meet at 7 p.m. May 16 to discuss the book “The Art of Fielding,” by Chad Harbach. To get a copy of the book or for more information, call the library at 970-276-3777.
